This article covers the most common 2FA and MFA login issues on the Avanan / Check Point MSP portal and how to resolve them.
'Non Valid Code' Error After Entering the Authenticator Code
This error means the verification code entered at the login screen was not accepted. Try the following steps in order:
Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Other browsers may block the session cookies required for the login process.
Open the login page in an Incognito or Private window to avoid conflicts with cached sessions or other signed-in accounts.
Request a new code from your authenticator app and enter it immediately. Verification codes expire quickly — usually within 30 seconds.
If your authenticator app is generating codes that are consistently rejected, the device clock may be out of sync. Force a time sync: on iOS go to Settings → General → Date & Time and toggle Set Automatically off and back on; on Android go to Settings → System → Date & Time and do the same. Regenerate the code after syncing.
If the above steps do not work, a support engineer can reset your 2FA from the backend. After the reset you will receive a new activation email to set up MFA again from scratch.
QR Code Hangs or Spinner Never Completes During MFA Enrollment
During MFA setup, the QR code screen may spin for an extended period. This is a known behavior and does not always indicate a failure — in some cases it will eventually complete after 10–15 minutes. If it does not:
Try the registration again from the activation link in the welcome email.
Open the activation link in a different browser (Chrome or Edge) or in an Incognito window.
Try from a different device or network.
If the QR code screen consistently fails across multiple attempts and devices, contact Guardz Support. A support engineer can recreate your portal account, which sends a new activation email and resets the MFA enrollment.
MFA Tool Only Accepts a Secret Key (Cannot Scan a QR Code)
The Avanan portal MFA setup screen only displays a QR code and does not show a separate secret key field. However, the QR code itself encodes the same secret key — you can extract it manually using these steps:
Take a screenshot or photo of the QR code shown on the MFA setup screen.
Open any free QR code reader app or online QR scanner and scan the screenshot (you do not need to scan it live with your MFA tool).
The reader will return a line of text containing 'secret=' followed by a string of letters and numbers. That string is the secret key.
Copy the secret key and enter it into your MFA tool where it asks for a manual or secret key entry.
Your MFA tool will now generate the same codes as if you had scanned the QR code directly.
Note: Check Point does not currently provide the secret key directly on the enrollment screen. The QR code extraction method above is the supported workaround.
2FA Keeps Failing After MFA Was Previously Working
If 2FA worked previously and has now stopped accepting codes, the MFA registration may have become invalid. A Guardz Support engineer can reset your 2FA from the backend. After the reset:
You will receive a new 'Welcome to the Avanan MSP Portal' activation email.
Click the activation link in that email to set a new password and re-register MFA.
You can safely ignore any email with the subject 'New Avanan Account' that arrives at the same time.
